CubeSnap

Rubik's cube solver from a photo

CubeSnap reads a real 3x3 cube from two photos and plays the solution step by step in 3D. You do not type the colors in.

CubeSnap on the App Store for iPhone. The apps are free to download. The web solver is free.

How the two photos work

  1. Photo 1 Put the cube on a table in even light, with no glare on the stickers. White center up. Frame three faces. In the phone app, fit the cube inside the guide.
  2. Photo 2 Turn the cube over so the yellow center is up, and photograph the other three faces the same way.
  3. The solution CubeSnap reads the stickers and shows each move on a 3D cube, one step at a time. You can step forward and back.

On the web, open the free solver and take the two photos, or upload a pair you already have. The iPhone and Android apps use the camera on the phone.

If a photo is rejected

Retake it. The whole cube should be in frame, photo 1 white up, photo 2 yellow up, with even light and no glare. CubeSnap solves a standard 3x3, stickered or stickerless.
