CubeSnap (“we,” “us”) solves a physical cube puzzle from two photos. This policy covers both the iOS app and our website at cubesnap.app, and explains what data we use. The iOS app does not require an account. The website offers an optional sign-in to save your solve history, described below.
To recognize your cube, CubeSnap uses your device camera to take two photos. When you tap to recognize, those two photos are sent over an encrypted connection to our recognition service (which may use a backup recognition endpoint if the primary one is unavailable), which computes the cube’s state and returns it to the app.
What happens to the photos. Your two photos are sent to our recognition service to compute the cube state. To perform recognition, they may be processed by trusted third-party AI and cloud providers (for example Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI) acting on our behalf as data processors, solely to return the cube state — they do not use your photos for their own purposes. For ordinary scans we do not retain your photos as a lasting record or training dataset; any copy held while computing your result is temporary. Your photos are durably stored only if you choose to send a debug bundle (see “Diagnostics and bug reports” below). Your photos are not linked to your identity (the iOS app has no accounts), are never used for advertising, and are never sold.
You can use the app without granting camera access by retaking later; without photos, the app cannot recognize a cube.
The iOS app does not offer sign-in. On our website (cubesnap.app) you can optionally sign in — using Google, Apple, or an email magic link — to save your solve history across sessions. If you sign in, we collect your email address to identify your account and store the solves you choose to save (cube states and their solutions) linked to that account. We use this only to provide your account and history; it is never used for advertising and never sold or shared. You can request deletion of your account and saved data at any time by emailing support@cubesnap.app.
Unlocking a solution is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment-card details; Apple handles the transaction.
Our recognition service keeps anonymous technical metadata (such as timing and whether a scan succeeded) to monitor reliability. This metadata is not linked to your identity.
Separately, if you choose to send a debug bundle — for example, to report a misread — it includes the two photos you captured, basic device, operating-system, and app-build details, and any note you add. On the website, a debug bundle you send while signed in is associated with your account. We use debug bundles only to reproduce and fix recognition problems, and we delete them after a limited retention period. Sending a debug bundle is always your choice.
CubeSnap is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The iOS app collects no personal identifiers, and website sign-in is entirely optional.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
